BFA Outdoors Bon-Fire Christmas Eve 2021

January 3, 2022 at 1:43 PM

While the sun may have set, a line of parallel ice candles lit up blackness to the lane at Bible Fellowship on Dec 24, 2021. An additional two Christmas trees glowed brightly beside the building. Tables were assembled to welcome all. Speakers and mikes were placed, along with three glowing bon fires where family groups gathered. For those who found outside weather a challenge, chairs were set up inside where all could enjoy and praise. At seven o'clock, Bruce R welcomed all to our first Outdoor Bon-Fire BFA Christmas Eve, celebrating the birth of Jesus. Following a few safety remarks about sign-ins, masks, music and order of the service, He opened with prayer. The first reading was then given “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” and the music team of Hannah M. (vocals/keyboard) and Becky J. (violin) led those assembled with “Joy to the World”. This was followed by a 2nd reading of Luke which partially stated: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.” “Angels We Have Heard On High” was then sung by the praise team along with the congregation assembled around the fires. Mary's song of praise “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” was read next and this was followed by “Adore” The story continued with a following reading including the verse “While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” “O Come all ye Faithful” followed.” The account of the shepherds was then reviewed including “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” This was followed by “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” The early life of Jesus was highlighted with verses “The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom and the favor of God was upon him.” The service concluded with the singing of “Silent Night” As the voices of all who came echoed through the night, one could not but wonder if this night of darkness and cold was so very similar to that of the first Christmas evening. Following this time of worship, we enjoyed hot-chocolate, large candy canes, and wished one another God's blessings. Thanks to God for such warm and gentle time of praise. Thanks to all those on the committee who worked so diligently in planning and preparing the many Christmas candles, bonfires, sound equipment, internet zoom connectivity along with music books, invites, those who participated in the readings and all instruments of praise. And thanks to all who came out and remembered the birth of Jesus!
