Winter Run 2011

February 4, 2011

On Friday, February 4, to Sunday February 6 Bible Fellowship Assembly and the Open End Youth Centre sponsored Winter Run 2011. The weather was mild with heavy black clouds that refused to drop snow, as over one hundred pumped and excited youth enjoyed a weekend of Biblical infusion, warm fellowship, challenging games like road hockey, awesome food and amazing times of worship.

"Shoeless" opened off the event with worship music followed by an ice-breaker and Gary Goodkey our primary Weekend Speaker. The presence of the Holy Spirit was felt during all his talks. These were followed by breakout sessions where youth were encouraged to interact with what they had just heard.

All outside guests to this conference were given billets, and awoke Saturday to another full day of more worship, Bible messages, breakouts and sports activities. After a busy afternoon of road hockey youth were treated to a full evening dinner, compliments of the kitchen fellowship team. Special speakers Saturday night included Amanda Ferron who challenged the gals on God's definition of true beauty, success, wisdom, and love. The girls learned that each can make choices in their lives based off of God's definitions, and only then can they stand strong through life in God's strength. “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30 Nick Baumhour meanwhile led the guys breakout session talking about the "Pit." Not a hole, though. More like events that leave Christians feeling down. David and Jonah were used as examples of this truth- that God has a purpose for the bad times in life, whether we cause those bad times or not. That same evening, worship music was provided by "Will play for Food"

The final culmination of this conference was Sunday, as a large group gathered at 9:30 to remember the Lord's death by breaking bread together. Following this time, Family Bible Hour worship music was again provided by "Will play for Food" with Steven Melnik sharing the Bible message. Steve emphasized in his sermon the biggest part of the rally was putting aside wants, and comforts. "What God can give us is so much better than what we can ever imagine we want. And unity in God's love among every believer is His desire. Its one love, one truth, one destiny to form one eternity" ‎"There is one body and one Spirit - just as you were called to the hope that belongs to your call - one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." Ephesians 4:4-6

This was one amazing weekend! Not only did all participants have good clean safe fun; but the Holy Spirit was challenging youth to fully trust in the Saviour, as well as walk in obedience to Him and His word. Much thanks to all those who laboured behind the scenes to make this a wonderful conference.
